If your walls could talk, what would they ask you? Would they beg you to finally commit to one of the seven grey paint swatches you have applied and stewed over for months (pssst. . . just go ahead and pick one! Any of them will be great!) Would they tell you to remove that 1980's wallpaper? Would they tell you that your walls shouldn’t resemble your Instagram feed? Would they tell you that there is more to walls than just, paint, wallpaper, photos and art? Walls can certainly be so much more.

I remember a fun-filled Saturday as an eight-year-old, alone in my thoughts and my imagination running wild as I played with my beloved Barbie dream home. This dream home included pink plastic Louis the XVI inspired furnishings, and was fully-equipped with an elevator because, of course, Barbie would need an elevator, right? She could never risk breaking one of her three-inch stilettos by climbing stairs! To my eight-year-old self, it was a dream home indeed, one which inspired me to think about my dreams for my own abode.
Having worked in the beauty industry for years, I always get asked – what is your favorite mascara or lipstick? What skincare would you recommend? I am very blessed to have had the opportunity and option to use all sorts of products from skincare to makeup. It has been to my advantage because it has made me very knowledgeable to so many beauty lines, which helps me to recommend the right product for my clients. I have such a long list I couldn’t possibly fit it all into this blog, so I went with a few items that I get asked about all the time. Throughout this year, I will come back to this topic and introduce you to more of my top favorites.
Throughout history, women have played important roles in government, business, and family. Our history is filled with women who have accomplished great things; here are just a couple of books about some of these women. As you explore this month’s book reviews, please take a moment to celebrate the important women in your life.
Ahhh, the look of a beautiful white sofa! Pristine, elegant, sleek and sophisticated. It is a work of art, begging to be admired, but forbidden to be touched. A home with a white sofa often seems to be like a trophy, marking the advancement of a couple moving into “empty nester” status. For the rest of us, the white sofa years may seem a distant pipe dream as we acknowledge the sobering reality that our current lifestyle simply doesn’t jive with the immaculate look of a white sofa.
February is a month to celebrate many important occasions like Valentine’s Day, Black History, President’s Day, and many others. Did you know that February is also library lovers’ month? To celebrate this occasion, please stop in and visit your local public library. During your library visit, make sure to look for items that will keep you entertained during the remaining winter days.
When the sugar plums no longer dance in your head, but have now taken up permanent residence on your hips? When your good old Dyson has finally sucked up the last speck of glitter and all that remains of the holiday festivities is the sap on your carpet from your once live Christmas tree. You look around your home and it feels empty and bare. The weather outside is still frightful, and your garden has retired into indefinite dormancy. It's time to put the sparkle back into your home and combat those winter blues!
After the holidays I am always eager to get things put away and back into routine. However, I always feel like my home looks a bit empty after all my pretty holiday décor is packed up so I always try and do a bit of winter decorating. The truth is that there is a long way to go until spring and taking the time to add a bit of colorful touches to the home in winter can do wonders for the soul.
Years ago, it was en vogue to paint a room in your house red. We’ve all seen the results of red-gone-wrong, a room that either emits an orangeish hue or a too-dark shade that looks like it was the scene of grisly bloodshed. Red isn’t easy; it’s a bold choice and requires trial and error to discover the perfect blend on the color wheel. Choose right and you exude class; choose wrong and you live with Elmo on your walls until you have the patience to paint over it.
As an intern with The Real KC and a high school student at Park Hill South, I like to consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to the apps I use on a daily basis. With the thousands of apps out there for us to download, it gets pretty difficult to sort through which ones are helpful and which ones are duds. So, to avoid the time-consuming process of figuring out just how helpful an app actually is, I’ve made a list of all the apps I think are must-downloads. These apps are here to make lives easier for all age groups so you get your app store ready!

As an avid reader, I enjoy many different genres. But what I really enjoy reading, especially during this time of year, are dark and twisted stories. As a mom, there is really nothing better than finding other moms you can relate to. For the moms who really just “get” me, I couldn’t be more grateful because we’ve all been that mom before. We need other moms who understand the need for caffeine, silence and guilty pleasures like eating your kids’ Halloween candy, drinking wine after bedtime and yoga pants as every day, anytime pants.
