Miles of Smiles

The CDC reports that tooth decay remains the most common chronic childhood disease while dental care is the largest unmet health care need for children. Right here in the Northland of Kansas City, there are an estimated 17,000 children with no access to dental care (i.e. no insurance or financial ability to pay for dental care).

Enter Miles of Smiles…..

Miles of Smiles is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization that provides FREE dental care to children in the Northland who otherwise would not have access. The dental care is provided by licensed dentists and assistants in a school or community setting for ease of access. We also see patients throughout the year at our home office and through a clinic at Synergy Service’s Youth Resiliency Center, and we treat patients up to age 18.

To fund Miles of Smiles, which now includes a staff of 12 – including three full-time dentists, one part-time dentist and six dental assistants, we seek grants, corporate gifts and individual gifts. Additionally, we are funded by a third-party event, and we host our own event, Brush Up On Fashion. This event will be held on March 31 in the Ballroom of the Argosy Hotel Casino and Spa. The luncheon/fashion show will run from 11:30 – 1:00, and we’ll also feature a silent auction. We’re hoping that you will join us for this annual event…’s great food and a lot of fun, and this luncheon/fashion show helps to support our mission. Tickets and sponsorships are available, and you can learn more – and order your tickets – here:

I encourage you to go to our website to learn more about the good work that we do to serve our own community. Come tour our office. Help us spread the word about Miles of Smiles. I can be reached at, and I hope to see you on March 31 at the Argosy for our Brush Up On Fashion event!
